For Authors
Tend the Soil Publishing is a Christian-owned independent publishing house committed to stewarding meaningful work with care, discernment, and excellence. We believe books matter — not only because of what they say, but because of what they leave behind.
We work with authors who are carrying something worth shaping well: a testimony, a teaching, a story, a resource, a devotional, a cookbook, a children’s book, a family legacy, or a practical message that can serve readers with purpose.
Not every book we publish is written as a Bible study or devotional. Some works are deeply scriptural. Some are personal. Some are practical. Some preserve hard-earned wisdom, family history, healing, humor, instruction, or testimony from real life. What connects the work we steward is not a single format or genre, but a shared commitment to truth-honoring, purpose-filled publishing.
We recognize that insight, testimony, and wisdom often live inside people long before they know how to shape them into a book. A lack of technical knowledge or publishing experience should not be the reason a meaningful message goes undeveloped. At the same time, we believe calling and craft are meant to grow together.
For that reason, we approach publishing as both responsibility and partnership — honoring the author’s voice while upholding strong standards for the work we help bring into the world.
Our Philosophy
We are not a volume-based publisher. We release work slowly and intentionally, guided by alignment, capacity, and quality.
Publishing, to us, is both a craft and a stewardship. Excellence matters because books carry influence. They enter homes, churches, classrooms, kitchens, libraries, and private places where people think, heal, learn, remember, and grow.
We care about message, but we also care about method. A meaningful book still needs structure, clarity, editing, design, production discipline, and thoughtful presentation. We do not believe in rushing a book into the world simply because the idea is important. Important work deserves careful development.
The Work We Are Drawn To
Tend the Soil Publishing is especially drawn to books that carry depth, purpose, and service to the reader.
This may include:
- Testimonies, memoirs, and personal stories
- Devotionals and spiritual encouragement
- Children’s books and family-centered resources
- Homeschool, church, and small group materials
- Cookbooks, legacy projects, and practical guides
- Workbooks, journals, and educational resources
- Books that preserve wisdom, identity, heritage, healing, or lived experience
- Projects that help families, communities, and readers grow with intention
We are not looking for work that relies on fear-based messaging, manipulation, sensationalism, or trend-chasing. We are interested in books that are thoughtful, grounded, honest, useful, and prepared with care.

Preparation & Readiness
We believe publishing begins long before a manuscript is accepted.
As part of our commitment to stewarded publishing, Tend the Soil Publishing provides a private Author Preparation & Readiness Companion for writers who are discerning next steps. This guided space helps authors clarify their message, understand the publishing process, consider audience and alignment, and prepare thoughtfully before professional publishing services begin.
This companion is not a publishing service, an editing tool, or a guarantee of acceptance. It is a preparation resource designed to support clarity, readiness, and wise next steps.
Clarity brings peace. Preparation honors both the message and the messenger.
Submissions
Tend the Soil Publishing does not operate on an open submissions model. Author partnerships are considered on a limited basis as alignment, capacity, and project readiness allow.
We do welcome thoughtful expressions of interest from writers whose work reflects the heart of our publishing house. If you believe your book may align with Tend the Soil Publishing, you may share a brief inquiry introducing yourself, your project, your intended reader, and where you are in the writing or publishing process.
Because we work intentionally and selectively, every inquiry may not result in a publishing partnership. Our goal is not to publish every good idea. Our goal is to steward the right projects well.
